The Cultural Development and Innovation Fund is intended to support recovery for businesses in the culture sector by enabling them to make strategic step changes in business activity with a view to diversifying income streams, building resilience and safeguarding jobs.
For the purposes of this programme, cultural businesses are those which are focused on the creation, delivery, curation or technical production of the following:
Eligible applicants will be cultural businesses or sole traders (including freelancers) who employ fewer than 250 people. Grant support is available for those with well-developed plans for new ways of working which have been prompted by challenges to existing business models presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. These adaptations might include activity such as developing new products; realising new partnerships (including with the wider creative industries & other sectors); engaging with new markets and deploying new technologies. Proposals should be for interventions which could lead to sustained ways of working rather than interim solutions.
Responding businesses must be Tees Valley-based and operating in the culture sector (i.e. work centred around visual arts, performing arts, heritage, film & TV, music or literature).
Two tiers of grants are available:
Where necessary, grants can be used to cover 100% of the costs associated with your proposal, however any additional sources of funding are welcomed.
Whilst demonstrable match is welcome it is not essential: where necessary, grants can be used to cover 100% cost of a proposal.
Businesses interested in applying for funding should initially submit an expression of interest through the online form available below.

We are looking for well thought through and quality submissions as this is a competitive process and the fund is likely to be oversubscribed. All bids that reach us by the deadline will be considered so please give yourself time to put in the strongest proposal possible.

The programme is designed to enable the mobilisation of ideas which are well developed and where finance is the primary barrier. It is not an R&D programme and is a competitve competition that will be judged by a panel on quality.
